Troubleshooting

Symptom

Possible cause

Remedy

Can’t turn on the DPC-
7.4?

The power cord is not connected.

Connect the power cord to a suitable wall outlet
(page 21).

External interference is affecting the DPC-
7.4’s digital circuitry.

Turn off the DPC-7.4, wait five seconds, then try
turning it on again. If that fails, disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet, wait five seconds,
reconnect it, then try turning it on again.

No picture?

The wrong input source is selected on your
TV.

On your TV, select the input to which the DPC-7.4
is connected (page 17).

The video cable is not connected properly.

Check the video cable and correct as necessary
(page 17).

No sound?

The wrong input source is selected on your
hi-fi amp or AV receiver.

On your hi-fi amp or AV receiver, select the input
to which the DPC-7.4 is connected (page 18).

The audio cable is not connected properly.

Check the audio cable and correct as necessary
(page 18).

The hi-fi amp or AV receiver connected to
the DPC-7.4’s audio outputs is not on.

Turn on the hi-fi amp or AV receiver.

The Digital Out setting is incorrect.

Check the Digital Out setting and correct as nec-
essary (page 42).

The picture distorts
occasionally?

The disc is dirty.

Remove the disc and clean it (page 8).

You’re using the Fast Forward or Fast
Reverse function.

A little picture distortion may occur when using
these functions. This is normal.

Picture instability or
noise?

The DPC-7.4 is connected to your TV via a
VCR or other video equipment and its copy
protection system is affecting the picture.

Connect the DPC-7.4 directly to your TV
(page 17).

Can’t start playback?

No discs loaded.

Load some discs (page 22).

The selected disc cannot be played because
it’s incompatible.

Load only compatible discs (page 7).

The disc is upside down.

Load the disc the correct way up (page 22).

The disc is not centered in the disc bay.

Place the disc in the center of the disc bay
(page 22).

The disc is dirty.

Remove the disc and clean it (page 8).

The selected disc has parental lock and the
Parental Lock function is on.

Turn off the Parental Lock function (page 44).

Can’t play MP3/WMA/
JPEG discs?

The disc is not ISO 9660 Level 2 format.

Use only ISO 9660 Level 2 format discs (page 8).

The disc has not been finalized.

Finalize the disc (page 8).

Can’t select MP3 files?

MP3 files without a “.mp3” or “.MP3” file-
name extension are not recognized.

Use the correct filename extension (page 8).

The MP3 disc is a multisession disc.

The DPC-7.4 doesn’t fully support multisession
discs. Only files in the first session can be played
(page 8).

Can’t play WMA files?

WMA files without a “.wma” or “.WMA” or
“.ASF” filename extension are not recog-
nized.

Use the correct filename extension (page 8).

The WMA file’s copyright option is on.

Don’t use the copyright option (page 8).

The WMA disc is a multisession disc.

The DPC-7.4 doesn’t fully support multisession
discs. Only files in the first session can be played
(page 8).
