Programming the Remote

The DSS receiver’s remote control is preset at the factory to operate
Sony brand TVs.

If you have a TV other than Sony brand, or you have a cable box, VCR,
or laserdisc player that you want to control with the DSS receiver’s
remote, use the following procedures to program the remote to control
these components.

Note
Your components must have infrared (IR) remote control capability in order to
be used with the DSS receiver’s remote.

To program the DSS receiver’s remote:

1

Manually turn on the component that you want to program.

2

Turn to “Programmable Codes” on page 80 through page 81, and
find the three-digit code number for your component. If more than
one code number is listed, use the number listed first to complete
the following procedures.

You must perform step 4 within 10
seconds of step 3, or you must start
again from step 3.

3

Press the CODE SET button.

4

Press the FUNCTION button (CABLE or TV) for the component
you’re setting up. To set up a VCR or laser-disc player, set the slide
switch to any position (VTR1/2/3/MDP).

You must perform step 5 within 10
seconds of step 4, or you must start
again from step 3. To cancel the
operation, press the ENTER button.

5

Enter the three-digit code number.

6

Press the ENTER button.

To Check if the Code Number Works

Use the following procedure to make sure the code you’ve entered
works:

1

Aim the DSS receiver’s remote at the component and press the
POWER button that corresponds to that component.

If the component responds, try the CH+ and CH- buttons. If the
component responds, you’re done. If the code doesn’t work:

Y Try programming the remote using the other codes listed for your

component.

Y If you cannot get your component to respond to the DSS receiver’s

remote — even after trying all the code numbers for your
component — follow the procedure described in “Using the Learn
Function” on page 82
.
