Stratagy General Description 01/03

Voice and Resource Boards

One or more voice boards are used in the standalone Stratagy ES platforms to convert, compress
and store analog voice signals. These boards also provide telephone functions, including
generating and recognizing in-band telephone signals. The Public Switched Telephone Network
(PSTN) or telephone system must be physically connected to each voice board via RJ11C or
RJ14C connectors, 66/110 block or RJ48C for T1 or Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN).
Connectors used depends upon voice card.

Specific voice and resource boards are required in order to implement certain Feature Groups.
Table 2 lists the Feature Group and the required voice or resource board.

Note A Toshiba Stratagy ES-approved UPS is required on all Stratagy ES systems.

Signal Computing System Architecture (SCSA)

Some of the advanced applications that the Stratagy ES is capable of performing require specific
voice and resource boards. These boards are designed with Intel’s Signal Computing System
Architecture (SCSA)

.

A SCSA-based voice board, which is connected via the SCBus to an adjacent resource board, can
perform any advanced application facilitated by the specific resource board; i.e., fax and ASR.

With the use of Signal Computing System Architecture (SCSA) provided by the GammaFax
board, fax applications are performed quickly and efficiently. With SCSA, a voice call can be
changed into a fax call on the same phone line, without requiring the call to be transferred to a
dedicated line for fax.

Stratagy Activation Module (SAM)

Each Stratagy ES is equipped with a security key attached to the parallel port called a Stratagy
Activation Module (SAM). The SAM enables the Stratagy ES system to function. Without the
SAM, Stratagy ES becomes inoperable.

As new Feature Groups are added to an existing Stratagy ES system, the SAM is upgraded
remotely by Toshiba.

Though the Stratagy iES32 is an integrated circuit card without a parallel port, it incorporates an
embedded security key, called the SoftSAM.
