For the circular hand saws Festool offer the cor-

rect saw blade for all applications.

b) The riving knife

The circular hand saws are fi lled with a riving

knife as standard equipment. For safety rea-

sons all sawing operations must be carried out

using the riving knife.

After the saw blade replacement, adjust the riv-

ing knife as follows:

Extract plug from mains!

Unscrew the Allen bolt (2.9) by means of the Al-

len key (3.10) and adjust the rivings knife (2.8)

appropriately. The adjusting dimensions x and y

(fi g. 2) should be 2 – 3 mm.

c) Sawing off

Place the forward part of the base plate on the

workpiece, start the motor and push the tool for-

ward in sawing direction.

The pivoted guard opens automatically at this

time or can be opened manually by pressing the

lever (1.9).

d) Cutting aluminium (AP 85 E)

Thanks to the electronic speed control, and pro-

vided that the correct saw blade is used, the AP

85 E can be used to cut both, aluminium panels

and aluminium sections. Use only the saw blade

recommended by Festool for this purpose, and

adjust the speed in accordance with the appli-

cations and saw blade selection table.

When large panels are cut with the Festool

guide system, paraffi n should be used as a lu-

bricant. Thin-walled profi le sections upto 3 mm

thick can be cut without lubrication, using Basis

2 A as a bench, with control position 2.

When Basis 2 A is used, all workpieces must be

secured against the stop by means of clamps.

When cutting aluminium, be sure always to use

a slow manual feed rate and to remove the chips

with an extractor. Safety goggles should always

be worn when cutting aluminium.

7 Connecting up a dust extractor

When working in enclosed areas, the circular

hand saw should be connected to an extraction

system. For this purpose, the circular hand saws

are equipped with a tangentially-exiting connector

(3.4), into which the 27 mm dia. suction hose can

be inserted (3.5). If the machine is used without a

dust extractor, the chip defl ector (3.6) should in all

cases be fi tted to the connector. The direction in

which the chips fl y can be varied by turning the chip

defl ector. During operation with a suction hose, the

chip defl ector is inserted into the adjustable jaw

(3.11) at the left-hand end of the platen (2.11).

8 Accessories

Use only original Festool accessories and

Festool consumable material designed for this

machine because these system components

are designed specifi cally for the machine.

Using accessories and consumable material

from other suppliers will most likely affect the

quality of your working results and limit any

warranty claims. Machine wear or your own

personal workload may increase depending

on the application. Protect yourself and your

machine, and preserve your warranty claims

by always using original Festool accessories

and Festool consumable material!

The order numbers of the accessories listed below

can be found in the Festool catalogue or on the

Internet under “www.festool.com”.

8.1 The parallel guide

The parallel guide (not supplied with the saw) and

the guide adaptor are used for cutting widths up to

180 mm.

Slide the rail of the parallel guide stop into the guide

of the base plate (2.3) and lock with guide adaptor

after having adjusted the required cutting width.

8.2 Guide system

The guide rails, which are available in different

lengths, allow for precise, clean cuts and simul-

taneously protect the workpiece surface against

damage. In conjunction with the extensive range of

accessories, exact angled cuts, mitre cuts and fi t-

ting work can be completed with the guide system.

The option of securing using G-clamps (4.2) en-

sures a fi rm hold and safe working.

The guide clearance of the saw table on the guide

rails can be set with the two setting jaws (1.8,

3.11).

The guide rails are equipped with a splinterguard

(4.1), which has to be cut to size before the fi rst

use:

– Set the speed of the machine to level 6,

– Place the machine on the rear end of the guide

rail,

– Switch the machine on, press it down to the set

cutting depth and cut the splinterguard along the

full length without interruption. The edge of the

splinterguard now corresponds exactly to the

cutting edge.

8.3 Multifunction table

The mutifunction table, which is available in two

sizes (MFT 800, MFT 1080), makes clamping the

workpiece easy and allows you to saw large and

small workpieces safely and precisely using the

guide system.

Its many fi elds of application make economical and

ergonomically convenient work possible.

8.4 Saw blades, other accessories

In order to be able to saw different materials quick-

ly and cleanly, Festool offers saw blades that are

specially designed for your machine.

The order numbers for these and for other acces-

sories that allow you to use your Festool portable

circular saw effectively and in many ways, can be

found in the Festool catalogue or on the Internet

under “www.festool.com”.
