Safety Considerations
For safety agency approval the power module must be
installed in compliance with the spacing and separation
requirements of the end-use safety agency standards,
i.e., UL 60950-1, CSA C22.2 No. 60950-1-03, and VDE
0850:2001-12 (EN60950-1) Licensed.
For the converter output to be considered meeting the
requirements of safety extra-low voltage (SELV), the
input must meet SELV requirements. The power
module has extra-low voltage (ELV) outputs when all
inputs are ELV.
An input fuse for the module is recommended. Due to
the wide input voltage and output voltage ranges of the
module, different fuse ratings are recommended as
shown in Table 1. These are suggested “maximum”
fuse ratings. However, for optimum circuit protection,
the fuse value should not be any larger than required in
the end application. As an option to using a fuse, no
fuse is required, if the module is
1. powered by a power source with current limit
protection set point less than the protection
device value listed in Table 1, and
2. the module is evaluated in the end-use
equipment.
