4.10 Checking and setting the planer knives:
CAUTION! This procedure involves close contact with

the planer blade. Ensure that gloves are worn at all

times to prevent injury to the hands and ensure that

the machine is disconnected from the power source.
During transit the planer knives may be knocked out

of alignment. It is important to check that the knives

are properly aligned and adjust if necessary. Now we

have set the tables it is possible to now accurately set

the knives. This is a two stage procedure. First the

knives need to be set to the block then they need fine

adjusting to the table.
4.11A Setting the planer knives 1:

This method utilises the setting gauge supplied
Place the planer knife setting gauge on the cutter-

head. The knives must project so much that they

touch the setting gauge. This check must be per-

formed on both the planer knives and at both ends

of the cutterhead Fig.4.21. If adjustment is needed

turn the 10mm headed bolts clockwise in the block

Now tighten the jacking screws to raise the blade or

loosen them to lower it do this until the blade is accu-

rately set at both sides of the block and in the middle

4.11B Setting the planer knives 2:

This method involves using an aluminium straight

edge.
Take a small metal straight edge, preferably with

quite a wide body such as an engineers square.

Place the aluminium straight edge at either side of

the block, resting on both tables
