Selecting the AF Area

You can manually select the AF point or zone. With 61-point automatic
selection AF, you can set the starting AF point for AI Servo AF.

Press the <S> button.

The AF points will be displayed in the
viewfinder.

In AF point expansion modes, effective
adjacent AF points will also be displayed.

In the Zone AF mode, the selected
zone will be displayed.

Select an AF point.

The AF point selection will change in the
direction you tilt the <9>. If you press
<9> straight down, the center AF point
(or center Zone) will be selected.

You can also select AF points in the
vertical direction with <6> and in
the horizontal direction with <5>.

In the Zone AF mode, turning the
<6> or <5> dial will change the
Zone in a looping sequence.

Pressing the <S> button lights up the AF points that are cross-type AF
points for high-precision autofocusing. The blinking AF points are
horizontal-line sensitive. For details, see page 75.

AF Point Display Indications

When you press the <S> button, the top LCD panel displays the following:
• 61-point automatic selection AF and Zone AF (manual selection of

zone):

AF

• Single-point Spot AF, Single-point AF, and AF point expansion:

SEL

(Center)/SEL AF (Off-center)

With [25: Manual AF pt. selec. pattern], you can set either [Stops at
AF area edges
] or [Continuous] (p.100).
