External Storage XP for the XP10000/XP12000

NOTE:

When executing the Check Paths & Restore Vol. command, if the external LU is ready to be

restored as the mapped LU, the external LU is set to Available. However, if the external LU is not ready to

be restored, the external LU status remains as Blocked.

NOTE:

When executing the Check Paths & Restore Vol. command, if the external LU is ready to be

restored as the mapped LU, the external LU is set to accept the I/Os and you can resume using the external

LU as a mapped LU. However, if the external LU is not ready to be restored, the external LU status remains

as Blocked.

CAUTION:

To use the mapped external LU again after executing the Disconnect Subsystem command,

execute the Check Paths & Restore Vol. command.

Powering off the local disk arrays

CAUTION:

The Disconnect Subsystem command is not supported for this version. Wherever this section

mentions execution of the Disconnect Subsystem command, please execute the Disconnect Volume

command for each external disk array volume.

1.

Stop all read and write I/O operations to external LUs.

2.

Execute the Disconnect Subsystem command for the external disk array containing the mapped

external LU (”

All subsequent I/O operations to the external LU are stopped and all data in the local disk array cache

memory is written (de-staged) to the external LU.

3.

Perform any other operations that are required before turning off the local disk array.

4.

Turn off the local disk array power supply.

Powering off external disk arrays

1.

Stop all read and write I/O operations to external LUs mapped as a local disk array internal XP LDEV

and located in the external disk array you want to turn off.

2.

Execute the Disconnect Subsystem command for the external disk array (”

All subsequent I/O operations to the external LU are stopped and all data in the local disk array cache

memory is written (de-staged) to the external LU (all data is destaged).

3.

Perform any other operations that are required before turning off the external disk array.

4.

Turn off the external disk array power supply.

Powering on local disk arrays or external disk arrays

1.

Power on the external disk array.

2.

Power on the local disk array.

3.

Execute the Check Paths & Restore Vol. command (

Checking connection status and resuming external

” on page 69) to resume using an external LU that has been

disconnected using the Disconnect Subsystem command but where mapping information still exists.
