Setting resources

From P9000 Command View AE Suite, the storage administrator sets the storage resources that will
be used by the server administrators in Plug-in for Virtualization Server Provisioning.

For details about the items to check when setting resources or for details about the virtualization of
storage capacity, see P9000 Command View AE Suite online Help.

Conditions:

Registering storage systems: The user must have the Admin role for all Device Manager resources.

Registering hosts and virtualizing the storage capacity: The user must have the Device Manager
Admin or Modify role.

Operations that must be completed in advance:

Installation of P9000 Command View AE Suite

Registration of a Device Manager license

Environment settings for registering a virtualization server

To set a resource:

1.

Log in to P9000 Command View AE Suite.

2.

From the Administration tab, register the storage systems in Managed Resources.

3.

From the Administration tab, register hosts (virtualization servers) in Managed Resources.

To register a virtualization server, specify the CIMOM interface information (IP address or user
account information) of vMA. The physical environment of the VMware vCenter Server management
target (the physical server on which VMware ESX to be managed is installed) is registered as a
virtualization server. The virtualization server registered here can also be displayed in the Plug-in
for Virtualization Server Provisioning list of hosts.

4.

When the Thin Provisioning functionality is used, virtualize storage capacity from the Resources
tab as necessary.

Create a THP pool in the storage system.

TIP:

In Plug-in for Virtualization Server Provisioning, if you cannot find a volume that satisfies the conditions
for allocating a storage resource to a virtualization server, a volume is automatically created from a
parity group or the THP pool and allocated. However, depending on the environment or conditions,
this process might take a little while. Creating a volume in advance based on the environment in
which the virtualization server will be used can reduce the time required for allocating volumes as
well as the processing load.

To allow the server administrator to use a registered resource in Plug-in for Virtualization Server
Provisioning, you must create an account in P9000 Command View AE Suite, and set the access
permissions for the storage resource.
