Unallocating storage resources

This section explains how to unallocate P9000 Command View AE Suite storage resources from a
virtualization server.

About unallocating storage resources

Unallocate storage resources from virtualization servers to migration or remove virtual machines.

If a server in the virtualization server list of Plug-in for Virtualization Server Provisioning is selected
and deleted, all datastores, raw devices, and volumes in a P9000 Command View AE Suite storage
system can be seamlessly deleted. If the allocation-source volumes (basic volumes or THP volumes)
are deleted at the same time datastores and raw devices are deleted, the area taken up by those
volumes (the area initialized as parity groups or a THP pool) can be reused.

Use VMware vSphere Client to delete or migrate virtual machines or to reduce raw device capacity.

Datastores and raw devices allocated to virtualization servers can be deleted. Datastores and raw
devices allocated from P9000 Command View AE Suite storage resources are targeted by this
operation.

Information to collect in advance

IP address or host name of the virtualization server on which you want to delete a datastore or a
raw device

To unallocate storage resources:

1.

Select the P9000 Provisioning tab in VMware vSphere Client.

2.

From the Hosts tab, select one or more virtualization servers on which you want to delete a
datastore or a raw device, and then click the Delete Storage button.

From among the selected datastores and raw devices on virtualization servers, datastores and
raw devices created in Plug-in for Virtualization Server Provisioning are displayed in a list.

3.

Select the lines of the datastores or raw devices you want to delete, and then click the Show Plan
button.

4.

Review the plan. If there are no problems, execute the processing.

The executed plan is registered as a task.

TIP:

By default, the storage system volumes that are the allocation sources of the deleted datastores
or raw devices are also deleted, freeing up the capacity used by the volumes. To reuse
volumes without deleting them, clear the Delete Volumes check box while reviewing the
plan.
