Releasing Specific Data from Cache Residency Cache

Use this procedure when you want to release specific data areas on one or more LDEVs from
Cache Residency cache.

Note: Deleting the data from many LDEVs during host I/O may cause the host I/O response time
to become slow. To avoid a slow response time, try to delete the data for only one LDEV at a time.
If the user attempts to delete cache-resident data during host I/O, the data may conflict as a result
of the host I/O and the data writing process on the disk drive (de-staging). This may cause the
response time to become slow. To avoid response performance degradation, limit the total amount
of data you attempt to delete in one operation, as follows:

If the host timeout period is set to 11 seconds or less, limit the total amount of data to:

Open system: 1 GB or less

Mainframe system: 1,000 cylinders or less

If the host timeout period is set to 11 seconds or more, limit the total amount of data to:

Open system: 3 GB or less

Mainframe system: 3,000 cylinders or less

To release specific data area(s) on one or more LDEVs from Cache Residency cache:

1.

Select the desired CLPR from the CLPR drop-down list in the Cache Residency window.

2.

In the CU:LDEV tree in the Cache Residency window (upper left), select the LDKC and the CU
which contain the desired LDEV, and then select the desired LDEV.

The LDEV information table displays the information for the selected LDEV. The Mode column
displays Prio or Bind for each data area that is allocated to Cache Residency cache.

3.

Select the data areas that you want to release from Cache Residency cache. This enables the
Release button.
