Issue the

passwd

command at the shell prompt.

NOTE:

The

passwd

command applies only to the boot PROM password when it is entered from the boot

interface.

Enter the boot PROM password at the prompt, and then reenter it when prompted. The password must

be eight alphanumeric characters (any additional characters are not recorded). Record this password

for future use.

9.

Issue the

saveEnv

command to save the new password.

10.

Reboot the standby CP blade by issuing the

reset

command.

11.

Connect to the active CP blade serially and by telnet and issue the

haEnable

command to restore

HA, and then fail over the active CP blade by issuing the

haFailover

command.

Traffic resumes flowing through the newly active CP blade after it has completed rebooting.

12.

Connect the serial cable to the serial port on the new standby CP blade (previously the active

CP blade).

13.

Repeat

step 3

through

step 10

for the new standby CP blade.

14.

Connect to the active CP blade serially and by telnet and issue the

haEnable

command to restore

HA.

Recovering forgotten passwords

If you know the root password, you can use this procedure to recover the user, admin, and

factory passwords:

1.

Open a CLI connection (serial or telnet) to the switch. If secure mode is enabled, connect to the

primary FCS switch.

2.

Log in as root.

3.

Issue the command for the type of password that was lost:

passwd user

passwd admin

passwd factory

4.

Enter the requested information at the prompts.

To recover a lost root password, contact your switch service provider.
To recover a lost boot PROM password, contact your switch service provider. You must have previously

set a recovery string to recover the boot PROM password.
