Energy Smart

TM

In some select locations, electric utilities are

beginning to run consumer trials where they

communicate directly with household appliances

to reduce energy consumption during periods of

high energy costs. To communicate with an electric

utility, your home would need to be equipped

with a Smart Electric Meter, and your appliance

would need to have an Appliance Communication

Module (ACM) installed. Smart Meters and ACM’s

are currently not available directly to consumers.

Consumers need to be solicited by their electric

utility before they can participate in field trials

testing these new communication solutions.

If you are part of a previously arranged electric

utility trial where your utility is in communication

with your appliances, your appliance will receive

energy reduction signals from the utility. When the

energy reduction signal has been received, your

appliance will display an “ES” on the display and/

or the Energy Smart icon will illuminate on the

front panel. The appliance will respond by reducing

energy consumption or delaying the start of the

cycle.
The Energy Smart mode can be overridden by:
-

Holding the Delay Wash button for 3 seconds to

return the washer to normal operation.

Energy Smart installation and system connection

instructions are included with the ACM.
