Introduction

Valve Body and Ball

The SVS valve body is machined from a single piece of stainless steel enabling
quick and easy installation. Rotating the stainless steel ball in the valve body
controls flow through the valve. Discharge valves include a BALANCE hole
allowing water pressure to be equalized over the entire valve for easier control
of high discharge pressures and flows. (See Figure 2-2: “Typical SVS Valve
Parts Overview, Non-Locking,” on page 10.)

Note: The balance hole is not required with INLET valves.

Valve Seals

The valve seals prevent pressurized liquids from leaking around the valve ball.
The seals are a two-part assembly, consisting of a stainless steel reinforced
Teflon™ impregnated elastometric ball seal, with a Polymer™ backing ring for
support.

Valve Adapters

Numerous adapters are available for a variety of applications. The pump side
adapter attaches the valve to the pump. The outboard adaptor allows equip-
ment to be attached to the valve.

The configuration of adaptors is dictated by the pump requirements, the loca-
tion and the layout of the equipment on which it is installed. (Refer to Hale
Stainless Valve System Options, Plate #: PL1060A, located at the back of this
manual, for a listing of the various adapters.)

Grease fittings are provided on most adaptors to provide lubrication to the valve
ball. Use only approved lubricants on the system. For a listing of recom-
mended lubricants, see Section 4 “Routine Maintenance,” heading 4.3 “Lubri-
cants” on page 20.

Valve Actuators

Manual Lever

(See Figure 2-3: “Manual Lever,” on page 12.)

The manual lever provides a simple, hand operated option for opening or clos-
ing the valve.
