TROUBLESHOOTING CHART
PROBLEM CAUSE CORRECTION
Engine clicks but • Weak or dead battery. • Recharge or replace battery.
will not start • Corroded battery termi­
nals.
• Clean battery terminals.
• Loose or damaged wiring. • Check alt wiring.
• Faulty solenoid or starter. • Check/replace solenoid or
starter.
Loss of power • Cutting too much
grass/too fast.
• Set in “Higher Cur posi-
tion/reduce speed.
• Throttle in “CHOKP posi­
tion.
• Adjust throttle control.
• Build-up of grass, leaves
and trash under mower.
• Clean underside of mower
housing.
• Dirty air filter. • Ctean/replace air filter.
• Low oil level/dirty oil. • Check oil levei/change oil.
• Faulty spark plug. • Clean and regap or change
spark plug.
• Dirty fuel filter. • Replace fuel filter.
• Stale or dirty fuel. • Drain fuel tank and refill with
fresh gasoline.
• Water in fuel. • Drain fuel tank and carbure­
tor, refill tank with fresh gaso­
line and replace fuel filter.
• Spark plug wire loose. • Connect and tighten spark
plug wire.
• Dirty engine air
screen/fins.
• Clean engine air screen/fins.
• Dirty/clogged muffler. • Clean/replace muffler.
• Loose or damaged wiring. • Check all wiring.
• Carburetor out of adjust­
ment.

• Engine valves out of
adjustment.
• Contact an authorized ser­

Excessive vibration • Worn, bent or loose blade. • Replace blade. Tighten blade
bolt.

Replace damaged parts.
