5.8

Replacing the S2400EP4 Server Board

The CG1200 Carrier Grade Server uses the Intel® server board S2400EP4. To replace the server board,
the following components must be removed or disconnected first:

Top chassis cover

Riser card assembly

RMM4 module (if used)

I/O module (if used)

Hardware RAID controller module and SuperCap (if used)

Any cables attached to the server board or routed over it
- Baseboard SSI main power cable from the power distribution board
- CPU1 and DIMM power cable from the power distribution board
- CPU2 and DIMM power cable from the power distribution board
- PMBus signal cable
- Baseboard SSI power control signal cable
- Front panel board USB cable
- SSI front panel board cable
- Fan set power cables (5)
- Mini-SAS cable from the SAS HDD backplane (if not connected to a hardware RAID controller)
- HSBP I

In addition, you will probably want to remove the following components for reuse on the replacement
server board if it hasn’t already been populated with spare components:

Heat sink(s)

Processor(s)

All DIMMs

CAUTION: Before replacing any of the boards on the CG1200 server, you must first take the server out of
service, turn off all peripheral devices connected to the server, turn off the server by pressing the power
button, and unplug the power cord(s) from the system and wall outlet.

When handling the power distribution board, observe the normal safety and ESD precautions. See
Appendix A: Safety Information for more information.

5.8.1 Removing the Old Server Board from the Chassis

1. Power down the server and unplug any external devices and the power cable(s).

2. Remove the chassis cover. For instructions, Section 3.2.1, “Removing the Chassis Cover“.

3. Remove the riser card assembly. For instructions, Section 3.2.5, “Removing the Riser Card

Assembly”.

4. Disconnect all the cables attached to the server board or routed over it:

- Baseboard SSI main power cable from the power distribution board
- CPU1 and DIMM power cable from the power distribution board
- CPU2 and DIMM power cable from the power distribution board
- PMBus signal cable
- Baseboard SSI power control signal cable
- Front panel board USB cable
- SSI front panel board cable
- Fan set power cables (5)
- Mini-SAS cable from the SAS HDD backplane (if not connected to a hardware RAID controller)
- HSBP I
