Operating Procedure/Focusing Optics

1.

Twist the manual locking handle on the overhead
arm to the left so that desired vertical alignment of
the colposcope head is achieved. Twist the handle to
the right to tighten the overhead arm.

2.

Rotate the illumination intensity knob clockwise to
“ON” position and adjust to desired light intensity.

CAUTION:

The lamp is extremely bright. DO NOT
stare directly into illumination lens when
the lamp is lit.

3.

Adjust the coloscope head to desired working
position using the tilt handle.

4.

Rotate the colposcope fine focus adjustment
clockwise or counterclockwise until the approximate
midpoint of total adjustment is achieved.

5.

Set the oculars to zero by rotating the diopter rings.
Align dots on ocular and sleeve.

6.

Rotate the Zoom Control Knob to minimum
magnification.

7.

Adjust the oculars to match the interpupillary
distance so that both circular views are brought into
coincidence.

8.

Identify your dominant eye and close the inferior
eye.

9.

While viewing through the “dominant” eyepiece,
push the colposcope towards or away from a printed
subject (a dollar bill makes an excellent practice-
focusing target) until the target comes into rough
focus. Adjust the ocular for this eye. Repeat for the
inferior eye.

10. View through both eyepieces and rotate the zoom

control from maximum to minimum magnification.
The image should remain in focus throughout the
range.

11. Adjust the fine focus as necessary to compensate

for patient movement during the exam.

Green Filter

To examine with the
green filter in place,
slide the green filter bar
to the right. By utilizing
the green filter, the
terminal
angioarchitecture
becomes etched in
black allowing a degree
of discrimination not
otherwise achieved.
This contrast also
enhances the features
of the surface
topography. Sliding the
green filter bar to the
left will disengage the
green filter.

CAUTION

Avoid hitting the colposcope! When transporting
or adjusting the colposcope, handle the colposcope
gently, taking care to avoid sharp knocks.

Avoid the following conditions: dust, vibration, and
exposure to high temperature, moisture, or direct
sunlight.
