When setting up ports in the various switch configuration options, including for LAGs and double
tagging, set up and configure options in this order on these screens (you may skip steps that do not
apply to your system):

1. Set up the physical layer, such as port speeds. At the Port Information screen, enable Link

Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) Mode for ports for both the customer and service provider;
see "Check and Update Port Information" on page 3-18.

2. Set up STP parameters for the physical ports if needed; see "Set Up Spanning Tree Parameters"

on page 3-18.

3. Make sure all links are down, then set up the Link Aggregation (LAG(s)). At the Lag

Configuration screen, set up the parameters for the LAG Actor Admin; in particular, the
Aggregation parameter must be set to Aggregatable, rather than Individual; see "Set Up LAGs"
on page 3-19.

Note: Be sure to include the port for each VLAN in the LAG.

4. Set up the VLANS; be sure to treat a LAG as a single port. At the VLAN Configuration screen,

add a VLAN, then set the VLAN Name. At the XPx Information screen, set up the VLAN
information for each port in the LAG; select an individual port and set values for these
parameters; see "Set Up VLANs," step 7, on page 3-20:

a. Participation Include/Exclude/Auto: Select the specific VLAN tags that this port will Include

(always), Exclude (never), or Auto (dynamically) participate in

b. Tagging Enable/Disable: Enable, allow tags to remain on packets as they exit this port; or

Disable, strip tags from packets before they exit this port

c. Double Tagging Enable/Disable: Enable, add service provider ID tags to packets as they exit

this port; or Disable, strip service provider ID tags from packets before they exit this port.

5. At the Double Tagging Configuration screen, you can optionally enable or disable double

tagging, then select the port and enter the PVID; see "Set Up Optional Double Tagging" on
page 3-21.

Note: Enable double tagging on the service provider port and disable it on the customer's port.

The service provider tag priority is derived from the port priority.
If you set up Pbit translation, the translation occurs before the Pbit is copied to the SP tag.

6. Set up the Multiple Spanning tree (MST) parameters if needed; see "Set Up Multiple Spanning

Tree Parameters" on page 3-22.

7. When all aspects of the link are ready, verify that cables are connected correctly and start the

network services.
