4. NEBULISER OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

4.2 INSTRUCTIONS FOR AEROSOL THERAPY

Before each use, the nebuliser and accessories should be
cleaned according to the instructions in the section "4.3
Cleaning and disinfection". Single personal use of the nebuliser
and its accessories is recommended in order to avoid risk
of cross infection.
1. Carefully wash your hands before commencing nebuliser

therapy.

2. Open the nebuliser by turning the upper section (6c.) anti-

clockwise.

3. Pour the medication prescribed by the physician into the lower

section (6a.). Close the nebuliser by turning the upper part
(6c.) clockwise.

4. Connect the accessories as shown in the "Assembly diagram"

(fig. L)

5. Fit the appropriate size mask to the jet nebuliser bowl and

place on face. If mouthpiece is to be used fit this in place of
mask.

6. Sit in comfortable position, turn on the unit by pressing switch (1a.) and breath normally through the

mouth. To obtain maximum medication, occasionally tap the jet nebuliser bowl.
Note: The unit is designed to operate for a maximum of 30 minutes at a time.

7. When the treatment is finished, turn off and unplug the unit. Before restarting the unit make sure that it

has cooled down to room temperature.

8. In some instances, during the use of the nebuliser, moisture may form inside the air tube (5.). When therapy

session is completed, disconnect the air tube from the jet nebuliser bowl, operate the nebuliser pump
and pass air through the air tube until dry.

Interactions
The materials used that come into contact with medication have been tested with a wide range of medication
in common use such as ambroxol hydrochloride, ipratropium bromide, bromhexine hydrochloride,
beclomethasone diproprionate, acetylcysteine and salbutamol. However, due to the variety and continuous
evolution of the medication, the possibility of a chemical interaction cannot be excluded. Once opened, the
medication should be used as soon as possible and avoid prolonged contact between medication and
nebuliser.

4.3 CLEANING AND DISINFECTION

Before undertaking any cleaning operation, switch off and unplug the unit.
Accessories
• Cleaning:
Wash under running water with mild (non-abrasive) washing-up liquid or in the dishwasher,

after disassembling all the parts coming into contact with the medication. Clean the centre jet (6b.) after
detaching it from the top section (6c.) of the jet nebuliser bowl and disassembling as shown in fig. A.

• Disinfection: Wash hands before cleaning or disinfecting the accessories. All components should be

rinsed under tap water after each use. All components, except air tube and mask, can be disinfected by
boiling for 5-10 minutes. Alternatively all components can be chemically disinfected by using a mild
cleansing solution such as Allersearch Nebuclean available from pharmacy – follow the disinfecting
instruction and then rinse components under tap water.

• Drying: Place components on paper towel and let air dry. Do not wipe components with towel or tissue

as their particles may block the jet nebuliser bowl causing poor misting. Reassemble the centre jet (6b.)
and fit it back in place on the jet nebuliser bowl as shown in fig. A.

Replace your jet nebuliser bowl every 6 months if it is used regularly. This will ensure that your medication
is always delivered at the correct particle size.

Unit and exterior of the tube
Do not use abrasive cleaners, immerse or run water over the NOMAD

®

NexGen case. Regularly wipe case

and exterior of the tube with damp cloth and mild detergent.
