Operation

1. Plug the cord into an AC outlet of the
appropriate voltage and turn the cord switch on,
momentarily, to see that the motor runs and the
chains move.

2. Connect the vacuum plate to a vacuum pump
or other source of vacuum.

3. Position the small pan under the edge of the
vacuum plate toward which the applicator will
move to catch any excess fl uid that may spill
over that edge at the end of the drawdown.

4. Place the test panel or chart on the vacuum
plate, making sure the perforated area is
completely covered. If the perforations on a
plate are not all covered by the panel, the open
perforations should be masked by tape or a piece
of paper.

5. Place the push bar across the width of the plate
and panel near the motor end. Adjust the threaded
bolt in each end of the bar so that it protrudes
down through a link in the drive chain about
one-half inch.

6. Place an applicator on the test panel or chart
against the push bar. Any applicator with a fl at
sliding surface will work if the width of the fi lm
it will produce is less than the width of the gap
between the sliding surfaces of the push bar.

7. With most applicators, the holder bar may be
placed on the drive bar posts with the weight of
the holder bar resting upon the applicator. The
holder bar will not rest upon the Gardner Film
Casting Knife because of the micrometers, but
this applicator has suffi cient weight to assure fi rm
contact with the panel.
