B.2.3 Waste Spark configuration


When using a waste spark ignition system, the number of ignition outputs required will equal
half the number of engine cylinders. ie,

4 cylinder engine = 2 Ignition outputs
6 cylinder engine = 3 Ignition outputs
8 cylinder engine = 4 Ignition outputs


The corresponding cylinder pairs can be determined for any engine by looking at the engines
firing order. An example using a flat 4 cylinder with firing order (1-3-4-2), the cylinder pairs
can be determined by separating the firing order in half, ie (1-3) & (4-2). The first coil pair
would be the first cylinder out of each group, ie (1 & 4) with the next cylinder pair being the
second of each group, ie (3 & 2) etc. This method will work with all even fire, even number
of cylinder engines.

The diagram below shows how the coils would be connected for the example above.
