Figure J-1. KT/11202-1 External 20 dB Step Attenuator Kit

Installation of the kit jumper plugs (Items 2 and 3) require removal of the modem chassis cover. Once the
cover has been removed:

• Item 2, the CA/WR11177-1 Kit Installation ID Plug, creates an identification signal that indicates

to the modem firmware that the External Attenuator kit is installed. To install, mate the plug with
the 6-pin J3 connector on the modem top board PL/9662-x.

• Item 3, the CA/WR11178-1 5V On/Off Control Jumper plug, loops a 5V control signal to the

output connector center conductor via the path normally used for BUC power supply output. To
install, mate the plug with the 4-pin J7 connector on the modem top board PL/9662-x.

Once the jumper plugs have been installed as shown in Figure J-1, complete the kit component
installation:

• Re-install the modem chassis cover.
• Installing Item 1, the PL/11141-1 Attenuator Module, on the modem rear panel. The module has a

Type ‘N’ male connector on one end, and a Type ‘N’ female connector on the other. The male
connector mates with the transmit IF output connector J2 on the modem rear panel, leaving the
female connector for transmit cable connection.
