DTMF or touch tone

Dual Tone Multi Frequency (DTMF) allows you to send number key
presses as tone signals over the telephone line. These tones can be
used for interactive telephone services, for accessing an answering
machine, etc.

External call

A call is external when a phone connected to the network makes or
receives a call via an external line.

External line prefix

The external line prefix (for example a ‘0’) may be required before you
can make an external call.
