Maintenance Inspection

BEFORE OPERATION

Look around the outboard motor
for signs of oil or gasoline leaks.

If you are using the portable fuel
tank (optional equipment), make
sure it is in good condition and
properly secured in the boat (p.

).

Check that the anodes are securely
attached to the gear case (p.

)

and are not excessively worn. The
anodes help to protect the outboard
motor from corrosion.

Check to be sure the propeller is
undamaged, and the castle nut is
secured with the cotter pin (p.

).

Check the engine oil level (p.

).

Running the engine with a low oil
level can cause engine damage.

Check that all fasteners are in
place and securely tightened.

Replace any damaged parts.

Check that all controls are
operating properly.

Check the stern bracket to be sure
the outboard motor is securely
installed.

Wipe up any spills before starting
the engine.

Check that the fuel hose is
undamaged and properly
connected (p.

).

Check the fuel level in the fuel
tank (p.

).

Check that the battery fluid is
between the upper and lower levels,
and the battery leads are connected
securely.

Make sure a tool kit and the
emergency starter rope are
onboard (p.

). Replace any

missing items.
