Problem

No sound is output from the
computer speakers when
playing music CDs or files.

The “Batt NG” message
appeared on the remote
control display.

The “Hi Temp” message
appeared on the remote
control display.

The internal battery does
not charge or can only be
used for a short period of
time.

Cause/Solution

t The sound output destination is determined by Windows

settings.

• If using Windows XP, on the [Start] menu, click [Control

Panel]. In [Control Panel], click [Performance and
Maintenance], then click [System]. In the [System
Properties] dialog box, click the [Hardware] tab, then click
the [Device Manager] button. In the [Device Manager]
window, double-click [DVD/CD-ROM drives], then
double-click [SONY CD-RW MPD-AP20U USB Device].
In the properties dialog box to enable CD audio from the
computer speakers, click the [Properties] tab, then select
the “Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device”
check box.

• If using Windows Me or Windows 2000, on the [Start]

menu, point to [Settings], then click [Control Panel]. In
[Control Panel], double-click [System]. In the [System
Properties] dialog box, click the [Device Manager] tab. (If
using Windows 2000, click the [Hardware] tab, and then
the [Device Manager] button to display the [Device
Manager] window.) To enable CD audio from the computer
speakers, double-click [CD-ROM], double-click the drive,
click the [Properties] tab, and select the “Enable digital CD
audio for this CD-ROM device” check box.

• If using Windows 98 SE, on the [Start] menu, point to

[Settings], then click [Control Panel]. In [Control Panel],
double-click [Multimedia]. In the [Multimedia Properties]
dialog box, click the [CD Music] tab. To enable CD audio
from the computer speakers, select the “Enable digital
CD audio for this CD-ROM device” check box.

• If using a Macintosh computer, music CDs cannot be

played through the computer speakers. We recommend
that you use the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive of your
Macintosh computer to play music CDs.

• Some computers cannot play music from an external

drive through their speakers.
