If

you

are

planning

to

install

or

remove

a

microprocessor,

memory

module,

PCI

adapter,

battery,

or

other

non-hot-swap

optional

device,

turn

off

the

server

and

all

attached

devices

and

disconnect

all

external

cables

and

power

cords

(see

“Turning

off

the

server”

on

page

39).

Attention:

In

a

dc

power

environment,

only

trained

service

personnel

other

than

Lenovo

service

technicians

are

authorized

to

connect

or

disconnect

power

to

the

dc

power

supply.

See

the

documentation

that

comes

with

each

dc

power

supply.

Press

down

on

the

left

and

right

side

latches

and

pull

the

server

out

of

the

rack

enclosure

until

both

slide

rails

lock.

Note:

You

can

reach

the

cables

on

the

back

of

the

server

when

the

server

is

in

the

locked

position.

4.

Lift

the

cover-release

latch

Lift

the

cover

off

the

server

and

set

the

cover

aside.

Attention:

For

proper

cooling

and

airflow,

replace

the

cover

before

you

turn

on

the

server.

Operating

the

server

for

extended

periods

of

time

(more

than

30

minutes)

with

the

cover

removed

might

damage

server

components.

Installing

a

memory

module

The

following

notes

describe

the

types

of

dual

inline

memory

modules

(DIMMs)

that

the

server

supports

and

other

information

that

you

must

consider

when

installing

DIMMs:

The

server

supports

up

to

12

Fully

Buffered

DIMM

PC2-5300

512

MB,

1

GB,

2

GB,

and

4

GB

DIMMs,

for

a

maximum

of

48

GB

of

system

memory.

Because

some

memory

is

reserved

for

system

operation,

the

actual

usable

memory

size

that

is

reported

by

the

operating

system

is

less

than

the

total

installed

size.

server

comes

a

minimum

of

two

512

MB

DIMMs,

installed

in

slots

1

and

4.

When

you

install

additional

DIMMs,

you

must

install

two

identical

DIMMS

at

a

time,

in

the

order

shown

in

the

following

table,

to

maintain

performance.
