Problem

Cause/solution

make a call.

The handset and base unit could not
communicate for some reason, such as
interference from other electrical appliances.
Perform the following:
– Move the handset and base unit away from

other electrical appliances.

– Move closer to the base unit.

Static is heard, sound cuts in
and out. Interference from
other electrical units.

If your unit is connected to a telephone

line with DSL service, we recommend
connecting a noise filter between the base
unit and the telephone line jack. Contact your
DSL provider for details.

The handset does not ring.

The ringer volume is turned off. Adjust it (page

The base unit does not ring.

The dialing mode may be set

incorrectly. Change the setting (page 27).

Check if the STATUS indicator is lit in

green. If it is not lit in green, see “STATUS
indicator” (page 84).

You cannot make a call while the base

unit is downloading the software update. Wait
until the STATUS indicator stops flashing and
changes to steady green.

You may have selected the wrong line by
pressing {TEL} or {IP}. Select the appropriate
line to call the phone number.

The base unit or another handset is in use. Try
again later.

I cannot make a call

using a cellular phone.

The IP line or the answering system is in use.
Try again later.

The remote code of the answering system is
the default setting. You need to set your own
remote code for security (page 64).

I cannot have a conversation
using the headset.
