Wireless

Telecommunications using electromagnetic

waves rather than wires or cable to transmit

information. Wireless communication can be

used for free-ranging mobile systems such as

cell phones and global positioning systems

(GPS), which use satellite technology. Wireless

systems can also be fixed, such as LANs that

provide wireless communications within a

limited area (such as an office), or wireless

peripherals such as mice and keyboards.
WMA (Windows Media Audio)

An audio format owned by Microsoft, is a

part of Microsoft Windows Media technology.

tools, Windows Media Video encoding

technology, and Windows Media Audio

encoding technology.
WPA / WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access)

A Wi-Fi standard that was designed to

improve upon the security features of WEP.

The technology is designed to work with

existing Wi-Fi products that have been

enabled with WEP (i.e. as a software upgrade

to existing hardware), but the technology

includes two improvements over WEP.
WPS

Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a standard

for easy and secure establishment of a wireless

home network. The goal of the WPS protocol

is to simplify the process of configuring

security on wireless networks.
