1. INTRODUCTION

The MCT-441 is fully supervised indoor, easy-to-install, PowerCode Gas
detector. The MCT-441 is a natural gas detector designed to send an
alarm when Methane gas is detected. The detectors can be used in a
house, apartment, caravan, mobile home or yacht.
The detectors are powered by 220 VAC. An internal Lithium battery is
used for AC power failure reporting only (the battery does not power the
detector).
The detector can send the following messages to the alarm system
control panel: Gas alarm, gas sensor failure , AC power failure and low
battery voltage .
The MCT-441 is designed for wall mounting and should be placed in a
location where gas presence, for example leakage, is probable.
Upon

gas

detection, an audible buzzer is sounded and

the built-in

transmitter transmits a

digital

message,

composed

of

the

detector's

PowerCode

ID

followed

by

status

messages.

Alarm and

other data are

thus

forwarded

to

the alarm system. A periodic supervision message

is transmitted automatically (see specifications) to inform the alarm
system at regular intervals, of the unit’s active participation in the
system.
The MCT-441 has a 24-bit ID code, randomly selected in the factory
from over 16 million possible combinations. This code is therefore
unique and virtually impossible to reproduce. Compatible PowerCode
receivers are designed to "learn" specific IDs and respond only to
them.

2. SPECIFICATIONS

Compatibility: Compatible with all PowerMax alarm system family

(PowerMax / PowerMax+ / PowerMax Pro / PowerMaxComplete),

MCR-304 receiver, MCR-308 receiver or any other PowerCode alarm

system.
Gas Type:
Methane (CH4).
Frequency (MHz):
433.92, 868.95, 869.2125 or other frequency

according to local requirements.
Transmitter's ID Code: 24-bit digital word, over 16 million

combinations, pulse width modulation.
Overall Message Length:
36 bits.
Audible Signal Volume:
At least 85 dB at a distance of 3 m.
Sensitivity:
8% ± 3% of the gas Lower Explosion Limit (LEL).
Supervision: Signaling at 15 minute intervals or according to local

standards.

Important: The detector will not operate without 220V power

connection. In the event of a power failure or where the detector is

not connected to a power source, an AC failure message is sent to

the control panel (will be received by PowerMax+ version 3.0 and up

only). Therefore, when installing the MCT-441, to work with

PowerMax or PowerMax+ revision 2.9 and down, it is highly

recommended not to disable the PowerMax/PowerMax+

"supervision" function (See "Define Control Panel Parameters" in the

PowerMax Programming Guide or PowerMax+/PowerMax

Pro/PowerMaxComplete Installer Guide).

ALARM REPORTS:

Gas alarm

Every 20 sec. for the first 3 minutes.

Every 3 min. for the next 27 minutes.

Alarm stops after 30 min., or if the detector goes into "alarm restore".

AC failure

20 seconds after an AC failure occurrence, the AC failure will be

reported - will be received by PowerMax+ (version 3.0 and up) /

PowerMax Pro / PowerMaxComplete. The report will be repeated

every 20 seconds for 3 minutes.

Trouble message

When gas sensor fails, failure message will be received only by

PowerMax+ (version 3 and up) / PowerMax Pro /

PowerMaxComplete.

Relative Humidity: 10% - 90%
Power Source:
220-240V ~ 50 Hz
Battery: 3V Lithium battery, type CR123A, Panasonic or Sanyo
Battery Life Expectancy: 5 years (for typical use, in room temperature)
Operating Temperature: 0

°C to 45°C (32°F to 113°F).

Dimensions: (LxWxH) 155 x 80 x 58 mm (6-1/8 x 3-1/6 x 2-5/16 in.).
Weight (including battery):
370 g (13 oz).
Standards: Meets requirements of EN 50194, EN 60950, EN 61010-1,

EN 50270, EN 300220, EN 301489.

3. INSTALLATION

3.1 Preparing the Installation

A. The MCT-441 gas detector plugs directly into a standard 220VAC

household switchable outlet (by a switch or circuit breaker).

Note: The installation must comply with the local authority

electrical standards.

B. The ventilation slots must not be blocked and the unit must be kept

free of dust.

C. A proper airflow must be maintained through the unit to obtain an

air sampling of that area of the house where the sensor is situated.

D. The unit must be installed at least three feet from any gas

appliance to eliminate false alarms but should not be placed

over 20 feet from such appliances.

E. Install the unit away from any sources of vapor such as alcohol,

liquor, vehicle exhaust, hair spray, cleaning agents, deodorants,

paint, fluorocarbons, or industrial solvents because vapors from

these substances will trigger false alarms.

F. Do not install the unit directly above cooking appliances, directly

above a sink, or adjacent to extractor fans.

Important!

• When the alarm sounds, immediately find out the cause and

remedy it or evacuate the building

• Ventilate the area by opening doors and windows

• Immediately extinguish any flames or pilot lights
• Do not operate any electrical devices

• Determine the source of the gas. Seek a qualified technician or

call your local gas company

3.2 Installing the MCT-441

Warning: Installation must be performed by a professional

person.

For proper installation, see figure 3 & 4.

3.3 Enrolling the Detector ID into the Target
Receiver's Memory

Refer to the target receiver's installation instructions and follow the

procedure given there for "teaching" IDs. When you are instructed to

initiate a transmission from the MCT-441, press the Test / Silent

button (see Figure 1).
