Bin Roof Handrail Assembly

Installing the Bin Roof Handrails

A. Starting at the eave of the roof, fasten the right post (STR0071) and left post (STR0072) to the roof

on each side of the roof angles.

B. Plumb the posts (STR0071 and STR0072) and fasten the post braces (STR0033 and STR0038) to

each post with 5/16" x 3/4" HHCS bolts and to the roof using 5/16" x 1-1/4" bin bolts.

C. Attach the handrails (STR0036 or STR0041) to the posts (STR0071 and STR0072) using 1/4" x 1"

self drilling screws through the prepunched holes in the handrails. Attach both top and
intermediate handrails.

D. Attach the next set of posts (STR0071 and STR0072) to the bin roof using 5/16" x 1-1/4" bin bolts.

E. Slip the second set of handrails over the first set of handrails with at least 2" of overlap and fasten to

the next post using 1/4" x 1" self drilling screws.

F. Plumb the post and attach the knee brace, then continue up the roof, assembling the bin

roof handrails.

G. When a catwalk is used at the top, fasten the posts (STR0071 and STR0072) to the catwalk and then

fasten the handrails to these posts.

H. When a sidewall ladder is not used on the outside of the bin, a rail needs to be placed at the eave.

The handrails that are removed to have access to the manhole can be fastened to the bottom posts.
When this is done, use 5/16" x 1-1/2" bolts (not provided) to fasten the handrails to each post.

I. When the handrails are not fastened at the top of the bin to a solid object, there needs to be a

horizontal brace put on to keep the handrail from scissoring up or down on the roof.

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN self drilling screws, or you might strip the metal.
