Installation Instructions for Fuel Filter-Water Separator Kit #13071

Thank you for buying our product.

Please read the following Instructions in full before starting the installation.

1. Choose a convenient location for the filter mount and filter, making sure you allow

enough space for servicing the petcock and for replacing the filter element.
Suggested locations are the fender well, firewall or the radiator bulkhead. Install the
brass fittings into the filter mount using Teflon tape or sealer on the threads. Mark
and drill three holes and mount the filter bracket using the hardware provided.

2. Place the two hose clamps on the hose provided. Attach both ends of the oil hose to

the brass fittings on the filter mount creating a loop, and secure in place using the
hose clamps provided.

3. Locate the fuel line that goes from the fuel tank to the engine. Cut the line, remove

any metal chips, and then clean both ends thoroughly.

4. Cut and install the hose that is connected to the brass fitting that says “IN” on the

filter mount to the fuel line that goes to the fuel tank and secure using the hose
clamp provided. Route the remaining hose from the “OUT” port on the filter mount to
the fuel line that goes to the engine and secure using the hose clamp provided.
Note: Keep all hoses away from sharp edges, moving parts and exhaust manifolds.
Do not bend hose sharper than a 5” radius.

5. Apply a light coat of clean oil to the gasket on the fuel filter-water separator and

hand tighten it on to the filter mount. Once the filter is snug to the filter mount, tighten
the filter ¼ turn; therefore assuring that the filter will not leak. Filter element should
be replaced every 25,000 miles. Order Derale replacement filter element part
#13075. The water should be drained every 3,000 miles. Both intervals should be
shortened if the fuel being filtered is suspected of containing high levels of
contaminants and/or water.

6. Start engine and check all connections for leaks. Re-tighten if necessary.

The Fuel Filter-Water Separator is designed for use with most fuels: gasoline, diesel
fuel, gasohol, etc. and most additives. Contact our tech department at 800-421-6288 for
