Configuring general options of data scout advanced – YSI Data Scout Advanced User Manual

The Digi Connect “Remote Gateway” (RG) cell phone device (GSM or CDMA) has an integrated RealPort VSP. This
device and VSP combo can dynamically relay Data Scout Advanced’s local “virtual” serial port changes to the remote
serial port on the device. As a result, the user is able to: (1) change the baud rate of the remote transducer, (2) detect
modem signal changes on the remote RS232 port, and (3) upgrade the firmware in the remote transducer (although this
is not guaranteed 100% reliable and therefore, not recommended).

The AirLink Raven modems (GSM or CDMA) have remote serial ports (which connect to the remote Level Scout
transducer(s)) that can have their serial port communication parameters set only statically by sending manual AT
modem commands. The serial parameters do not get dynamically relayed to the remote serial port on the remote
modem when Data Scout Advanced sets them for its local “virtual” port. This limitation currently makes two Data
Scout Advanced features (on the Run windows Configure menu) inoperable via this modem: (1) the user cannot
change the baud rate of the remote transducer, and (2) the user cannot upgrade the firmware in the remote transducer
(since that requires a dynamic change of transducer baud rate and other communication parameters).

YSI has tested two cell phone devices with the following results.

Note

All configured transducers can be simulated by selecting zero (0) in the Baud list box. After setting 0 baud rate, each transducer
defined on that site network will no longer access the physical com-port assigned to it, but will operate in a simulation mode that
responds correctly to most transducer commands by returning simulated responses. Transducer internal configuration options,
changeable via the Run window (e.g., mode, pressure units, temperature units, etc.), are saved in a persistent memory file (<model#>-
<serial#>-XSimPer.ini
in the Ini subfolder) for each simulated transducer. This simulation feature can be useful in debugging new
Script files before committing them to execute on real transducers. Simply restore the correct non-zero baud rate to make all
simulated transducers “real” again. The site network label is displayed in magenta when simulated transducers are in use.

3.5.2 CONFIGURING GENERAL OPTIONS OF DATA SCOUT ADVANCED
