3.8.2 HELP ACCESS TO OPERATIONS MANUAL

The Help | Manuals menu opens the full text and color illustrations of the complete Data Scout Advanced Operations Manual. Before
this works, Data Scout Advanced must be configured to find the manual (section 2.1.1)

3.8.3 HELP ACCESS TO YSI WEB SITE

The Help | Website menu provides access to the YSI website. Use this selection to get the latest published information on the Level

3.8.4 OTHER HELP

The Help | About menu selection, opens a window that shows the current user level and version of Data Scout Advanced. When

3.9 HOT-SWAPPING TRANSDUCERS

Data Scout Advanced allows you to “hot-swap” a transducer. Hot-Swapping is when you unplug an existing transducer whose status is
already visible on the current Site Net Map, and plug in a similar transducer with the same SDI-12 address.

3.9.1 THE PROPER WAY TO “HOT-SWAP” A TRANSDUCER

It is best to “hot-swap” a transducer when only the “main” Data Scout Advanced form is active and that form is idle (i.e., it is currently
NOT executing some menu function that sends commands to a transducer – which is most of the time). Then, follow these steps:

• Unplug the desired transducer from its serial port plug

• Plug-in another transducer with the same SDI-12 address

• Immediately Query that transducer (i.e. highlight the changed transducer, right click the Site Net Map to get that transducer’s

Context menu, and then execute its Query item.

For the last step, it may be easier just to click the Query button, which queries the affected transducer and any other transducers
currently on the Site Net Map. Either way, you are done after a successful Query of the affected transducer, as Data Scout Advanced has
replaced all the information from the original transducer with that from the new transducer.

If you should accidentally plug-in another transducer with a different SDI-12 address, errors (figure 3.18) occur several seconds after
you perform the Query step above.

Figure 3.18

Note that the Site Net Map’s displayed information row for the affected transducer still contains the original address (Adrs.=1), but
most other fields contain question marks (?) to indicate that transducer’s Query failed. Recovery is possible if you perform the
following steps.

If only one transducer is defined on your Site Net, you can correct your mistake by executing the Who are You? command on the
transducer’s context (right-click) menu or on the main Configure menu while the transducer is highlighted. After a short delay, the
