The user must then click OK on this status window to dismiss it, and then click Off in Acquire frame, before the Run window can
successfully Exit. A similar warning occurs if the user tries to Exit too quickly before Run completes its one-time startup initialization
period.

4.2.2 RUN WINDOW’S ACQUIRE MENU AND CONTROLS

The Run window’s Acquire menu has four sections (see figure 4.5).

Figure 4.5

The top two sections contain functions that control the “live” acquisition and display cycle of the Run window. These menu items also
have shortcuts in the form of controls in the Acquire frame located just below the status bar. The central light-green entry box labeled
Period allows for inputting the continuous scan’s frequency in seconds (figure 4.6). See the ToolTips of all these controls for tips and
rules for using them.

Figure 4.6

Whether using the menu items, keyboard shortcuts, or the easier-to-use push-buttons, the user can cause the Run window to make
one single scan of the transducers or start (turn On) or stop (turn Off) a continuous Acquire/Display cycle with an adjustable period.

The third section of the Acquire menu contains several Measurement options that can be individually checked or unchecked. Checked
options select internal transducer measurements that will be acquired and displayed “live” during the particular acquisition cycle
chosen. Un-checking an item de-selects its corresponding measurement. Whenever a measurement’s option is changed, the Run
window’s data display is rebuilt to show only the display columns for those measurements currently-checked. These Measurement
Options as well as the Acquire Period value are persistent which means that they are saved in a file (Run.ini) when the Run window
exits. Such options are restored the next time the Run window is activated. The On and Off Acquire options are not persistent thus
the Run window always starts with Acquire Off.

To start or stop acquisition (and display) of all configured measurements at any time, select the desired visual button in the Acquire
frame. Selecting the 1 button (or Acquire | Single menu item) causes only one single-cycle of all selected data to be scanned and
displayed on demand. Select the Off button (or Acquire | Continuous Off menu item) to end this single cycle early without
completing a complete scan of all configured measurements. To start continuous (cyclic) scanning of the data click the On button (or
Acquire | Continuous On menu item). Click the Off button (or Acquire | Continuous Off menu item) to stop this continuous
acquisition cycle. Any continuous scanning in progress will be repeated according to the current setting of the Acquire Period (in
seconds) value that is displayed in the middle (light green) text box in the Acquire frame. A zero (0) value causes back-to-back
continuous scanning when On is clicked. Select the text box (or Acquire | Continuous Period Set menu item) to change the period.
