Date/Time Difference displayed should be approximately the time it took to accomplish the firmware upgrade before the transducer
was reset (and its new firmware started). Select the box labeled Synchronize Xducer(s) with PC in the Date/Time frame, then click the
Send button to synchronize the two clocks. After performing this function, the time difference displayed should be between 0:0:0 and
-0:0:2 seconds. If this time lag is outside this range, repeat the synchronize operation.

The EMERGENCY UPGRADE mode is used only if an upgrade process failed to complete which leaves the transducer in an
inoperable state. This failed state consumes battery power continuously (even if transducer’s sleep mode is enabled). This Emergency
Upgrade mode assists in restarting the failed firmware upgrade.

This “repair” process requires that the user short-circuit (using screwdriver tip or paper clip) the outer and inner conductors of the
transducer’s External Power connector to force it into its boot loader firmware again (for up to 5 seconds). During that time the boot
loader is receptive to having the firmware upgrade process started again from the beginning. If you have entered the EMERGENCY
UPGRADE mode the necessary commands are sent to initialize Data Scout Advanced to send the selected .hex file again. The user is
then prompted to short-circuit the External Power connector.

The user will have 120 seconds to perform this step. If time runs out, the prompt appears again and the user is given other chances to
try, until the upgrade is successful (after clicking the OK button) or the user gives up (by clicking the Cancel button) and exits the
window.

Please note that the special “third” Run menu item (labeled Run | All Xdcrs (Emergency)) on the main Data Scout Advanced window,
may be very useful in starting such an emergency firmware upgrade operation because it declares all transducers to be in the locked
state without actually reading their status with commands. If you do not us this feature, you must request the Firmware Upgrade
window (with its transducer actually Locked), in order to get the menu shown in figure 4.49. If you fail to do this, there is still one
other way to turn on the EMERGENCY UPGRADE mode. Clicking either the light orange or light yellow status box located between
the Apply To: frame and the Upgrade and Exit buttons turns this special mode On or Off. Do this just before clicking the Upgrade
button, and you should get the prompt (see above) as an indication that you are in the EMERGENCY UPGRADE mode.

4.2.8 RUN WINDOW’S HELP MENU

The Run window’s Help menu has only one menu item: Tips. When selected, it opens a window with information similar to the Help
| Tips
menu item on the main Data Scout Advanced menu but with its middle panel showing the unique menu functions of the Run
window itself.
