You can always start DSPlay by selecting a new file, via the File | Open menu item, which causes the Windows

®

File Open dialog

window to open. This selected file then becomes the new last file selected.

If a last file selected exists, its full path name also appears (highlighted) in the File name: list box. The user may re-select it immediately
by clicking the Open button on the dialog window. Its file type also selects a current filter in the Files of type: list box. The user may
select a new current filter manually by clicking the arrow at the right end of this box to select any other type of recorded data file
created by Data Scout Advanced.

The user can create “custom” filters if the ones provided are not suitable to their file naming conventions. Just enter the desired
“filter” in the text box named File name: using “wild card” characters (? or *) to stand-in for one or more missing file name characters.
For example, if you have used the string “XTEST” within the name of a series of “record” files simply enter “*XTEXT* in the text box.
Only those named files which contain this string appear in the window above. The string “*XTEXT*.csv” entered manually into the
text box shows only the .csv versions of these files and hides any .txt file types.

To select a new file click its name to highlight it, then click Open or just double-click the file name. Click Cancel to avoid selecting a
new file. A standard Windows® right-click context menu also works on this dialog window. Use it to view a .csv file with a
spreadsheet application or to perform utility file maintenance functions (print or delete or rename).

There are currently two (2) known limitations on file path names selected for processing by DSPlay:

1) It cannot handle “unmapped” network file names (i.e., full path names with the “\\” prefix instead of a “drive letter

colon” prefix). The user must copy any such files to folders on a local hard drive or a “mapped” network hard drive
first.

2) It cannot handle files names containing “spaces” in their names. However, since all files created (written) by Data

Scout Advanced are automatically named, and do not have any spaces in their names, this should not be a problem
unless these names are altered. This limitation does not seem to exist if the file name is passed to the separate text
editor for processing.

Screen views in following sub-sections show the initial DSPlay window for each display mode. These sections also describe all the
features available in each display mode.
