Preparing and installing the BRITA
MAXTRA ilter cartridge
 ► Removetheiltercartridge’sprotective
packaging.
 ► Immersetheiltercartridgeincoldtap
waterandshakeitlightly(foraboutive
seconds)toremoveanyairbubbles.
 ► Taketheilterholderoutofthewatertank
andirmlyinsertthecartridgeintothe
holderuntilyouhearaclick.
 ► Holdtheilterholderunderthewatertap
andillitwithfresh,coldwater;letthe
waterrunthroughtheBRITAMAXTRA
iltercartridge.
 ► Repeatthisproceduretwoorthreetimes.
 ► Placetheilterholderwiththeilter
cartridgebackintoitspositioninthe
emptywatertankandillthetankwith
coldtapwater.
 ► Holddown start/stopbuttonforatleast
2secondstodeleteM.
Note: Toreplacethecartridge,simply
pullonthestrapattachedtothetopofthe
cartridge.Wheninstallinganewcartridge,
followtheabovestepsforpreparingand
insertingacartridge.
 UsedBRITAMAXTRAwaterilter
cartridgescanbedisposedofwith
theregularhouseholdgarbage.Ifyou

Important information
 – Alwaysstorespareiltercartridges
sealedintheoriginalpackaginginacool
anddryplace.
 – BRITAwateriltersaredesignedforuse
onlywithmunicipallytreatedtapwater
(note:thiswaterisconstantlycontrol-
ledandaccordingtolegalregulations
safetodrink)orwithwaterfromprivate
supplieswhichhasbeentestedassafe
todrink.Ifaninstructionisreceivedfrom
theauthoritiesthatmainswatermustbe
boiled,theBRITAilteredwatermustalso
beboiled.Whentheinstructiontoboil
waterisnolongerinforce,theappliance
andilterfunnelmustbecleanedand
anewcartridgeinsertedtoensureany
residualcontaminantsareremoved.
 – Pleaseiltercoldtapwateronly.
 – Cleantheapplianceandilterfunnel
regularly.
 – Forcertaingroupsofpeople(e.g.those
withimpairedimmunityandforbabies),it
isgenerallyrecommendedthattapwater
shouldbeboiled;thisalsoappliesto
BRITAilteredwater.
 – Forhygienereasons,theMAXTRA
cartridgecontentsaresubjecttospecial
treatmentwithsilver.Averysmall
amountofsilvermaybetransferredto
thewater.Thistransferencewouldbe
withintheWorldHealthOrganisation
(WHO)guidelines.
 – Duringtheilteringprocess,theremaybe
aslightincreaseinpotassiumcontent.
However,onelitreofBRITAilteredwater
containslesspotassiumthane.g.an
apple.Ifyouhavekidneydiseaseand/
orfollowapotassiumrestricteddiet,we
recommendthatyouconsultyourdoctor
beforeusingaBRITAwaterilter.
 – ShouldyourBRITAappliancenotbein
useforaprolongedperiod(e.g.holiday),
BRITArecommendsthatyoutakeoutthe
cartridge,discardanywaterleftinside
theBRITAwaterilterandlooselyinsert

thecartridge,cleantheapplianceand
funnelthoroughlyandrepeatthesteps
oftheinstructionsforuseinchapter:
