PREPARING THE TRACTOR

1. Remove or relocate the center mounted tail light from
under the seat. It will interfere with the top link if left in the
center position.

It is suggested that you mount the hitch kit before relo-

cating the tail light to make sure the new location does
not interfere with the hitch.

When making this change, clean the new mounting sur-

face of paint and rust so that a good ground connection
can be obtained.

2. Remove (if any) existing lift bar or rocker shaft from
below the seat.

3. Remove one of the hydraulic cylinder rams. (If no
other attachment is on the tractor it is suggested that you
remove both hydraulic cylinder rams.) Also remove the
hose (or hoses) from the outlet of the selector valve. If
both hoses are removed, plug one of the outlets (plug not
provided).

Check the tractor’s hydraulic system. Refer to your

tractor operator’s manual or dealer for any adjustments
necessary to put the hydraulic system in good working
order. (I&T shop manuals will list most specifications and

ing and make sure the threads are in good condition and
that the holes are clean.

adjustment instructions – available from most farm
equipment dealers.)

4. The drawbar on the model B & C tractors is adjustable
and has six positions. You have 3 positions by removing
the clamp capscrew (See figure A) and moving the
drawbar up or down until the proper hole lines up with the
capscrew position.

Three more positions may be obtained by removing

clamp and clamp pin and turning the drawbar over.

To mount the 3 pt. hitch adapter kit, the drawbar needs

to be in almost a level position and a distance of 13 7/8
inches between the top of the drawbar and the bottom of
the heavy angles on each side of the tractor. It is sug-
gested that you leave the drawbar bolts loose until the
entire kit is installed.

NOTE: If your tractor is equipped with the optional
A.S.A.E. drawbar package, it is necessary to remove the
two vertical braces between the drawbar and the two
angle frame members.

The HK-308 3 pt. hitch adapter kit is to be used on the

Allis Chalmers model B & C tractors that are equipped
with a hydraulic pump and a standard drawbar.

If your tractor is missing any of these parts, they are

available from used tractor parts companies.

NOTE: On some tractors that have the PTO and belt
pulley, the hydraulic pump can be installed on the side of
this housing (just remove steel plate cover). However, on
other tractors, it may be necessary to purchase the entire
PTO and belt pulley housing as well as the hydraulic
pump. Allis Chalmers used two different PTO unit
castings.

This hitch kit is designed to allow the tractor to handle

implements or loads that do not exceed 400 lbs. at a
point 24 inches to the rear of the lift arms. The tractor and
the hitch may be damaged if you use heavier loads.

NOTE: The Allis Chalmers model B & C tractors are light
weight tractors and the front end of the tractor will be
lighter when a load is picked up with a 3 pt. hitch.

When using a 3 pt. hitch rear blade in a reverse

position (bulldozing), use extra care. DO NOT RAM
BLADE into dirt or packed snow piles! Tractor lift
arms and the blade are not built to take high impact
loads in this position. RAMMING backwards can also
dislodge operator from seat and/or tractor controls,
resulting in possible serious injury or death.

Always ease the tractor into the load. It may be

necessary to reposition and take less “bite” on the
material to move it safely.

Watch for and avoid hidden obstructions, i.e.,

buried pipes, rocks, concrete piers, uneven con-
crete slabs, stumps, etc., when operating. This is
especially of concern when removing snow.

M A I N T E N A N C E

Inspect the hitch kit for loose, damaged or worn parts

and adjust or replace if needed.

Repaint parts where paint is worn or scratched to

prevent rust.

Check all bolts and nuts to be sure they are tight.

Periodically oil the following:

a. Top link (upper 3rd link) threads
b. Ball sockets
c. Leveling assembly threads

REPLACE SAFETY SIGNS

IF DAMAGED OR MISSING!

When completing a maintenance or service function,

make sure all safety shields and devices are installed
before placing unit in service.

S T O R I N G S A F E LY

• Never store equipment with fuel in the tank inside a

building where fumes may reach an open flame or
spark. Allow engine to cool before storing in an
enclosure.

• Do not run engine indoors - exhaust gases contain

carbon monoxide, an odorless and deadly poison.

• Sand areas where paint is chipped or worn and

repaint to prevent rust. Lubricate all pivot locations on
hitch kit to prevent moisture damage during storage.

If an air hose is used to blow any loose rust or dirt

from the holes, be sure safety glasses are used to
prevent particles from entering an eye.

W A R N I N G !

Keep clear of rotating parts; stay on tractor seat

until all motion has stopped.

Be sure tractor engine is off and key is removed

before making any adjustments.

Do not get under machine to make measurements

or adjustments without securely blocking imple-
ment first.

A heavy load can cause instability in driving a trac-

tor. Make sure the front of the tractor is properly
counter-balanced with weights. Always drive slowly
– especially around turns. An unstable tractor could
steer badly and possibly tip over, causing injury or
death.

W A R N I N G !

When using a 3 pt. hitch, a minimum 20% of tractor

and equipment weight must be on tractor front
wheels. Without this weight, tractor could tip up,
causing possible loss of control and possible per-
sonal injury or death. The weight may be attained
with a front end loader, front wheel weights, ballast
in tires or front tractor weights. When attaining a
minimum 20% of tractor and equipment weight on
the front wheels, you must not exceed the ROPS
weight certification. Weigh the tractor and equip-
ment. DO NOT GUESS OR ESTIMATE!
