Major DSM/SCM Features

DSM/SCM offers many features that enable you to better manage software
configuration on your systems, including:

Feature

Description

Centralized control

A planner at a central site (host system) can manage software on
multiple remote target systems.

Graphical user
interface

To access DSM/SCM, you primarily use the Planner Interface, a
graphical user interface that runs on any PC running Microsoft
Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows Version 3.11,
Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows - 7 (32 Bit).

Softdoc and release
document browsing

The planner can find dependencies for a given software product
revision (SPR) or scan any release document on the site update
tape (SUT).

Minimal downtime

Wherever possible, new software configurations can be activated
with minimal interruption of running applications.

Management of all
software

DSM/SCM manages customer and third-party software and updates
in addition to RVUs and updates (SPRs) from HP.

Multiple logical
targets

Defining multiple logical targets lets you run multiple software
configurations on a single system. This is useful for sites that run
development (test) software configurations separate from production
configurations. To switch the system from one sofware configuration
to another, perform a system load from alternate system disks.

Flexibility in planning
new software
configurations

The planner can easily select specific products from software stored
in the DSM/SCM archive to create a new software configuration
based on a previous configuration, in which changed products are
replaced by the new product versions.

Batch scheduling

You can schedule DSM/SCM activities, such as receiving software,
generating reports, and building configurations, to run as batch
processes at a specified time, such as after normal working hours.

Extensive reporting

DSM/SCM can produce preformatted SQLCI reports providing
detailed information about the software configurations in the
DSM/SCM environment. You can modify these reports and create
new reports tailored to your site specifications.

Predefined operator
instructions

Provided with every software configuration placed on target systems,
the planner edits these instructions with site-specific information.

System profiles

Profiles provide defaults for options and information required by
DSM/SCM tasks. These defaults greatly reduce the amount of
information you must supply when using DSM/SCM.
