NOTE:

In DC-powered Telco systems, instead of having power supply units in slots 31 and 32,

there are actually 4 TICs (in positions A1, A2, B1, and B2). If the system is not wired as documented
in the NonStop S-Series Central Office Server Installation and Service Guide, OSM cannot properly
identify the TIC that needs to be replaced. If an OSM alarm appears on a power supply in either
slot 31 or 32, consult your wiring diagram and the NonStop S-Series Central Office Server
Installation and Service Guide
before replacing a power supply component.

help topic for guidelines and precautionary steps to observe before

and during the CRU replacement.

2.

After clicking Yes to confirm that you are ready to proceed with the replacement action:

OSM checks the peer power supply to verify that it is functional and can take over during
the replacement.

If the peer power supply is functional, OSM disables the battery associated with the
power supply CRU to be replaced.

If these tasks complete successfully, a dialog box informs you that the power supply is
ready to be replaced.

3.

After replacing the power supply CRU, click Continue to complete the action. OSM verifies
the status of the new power supply. If it is functional, OSM enables the battery that was
disabled earlier in the procedure.

If at any point during the procedure OSM finds problems that prevent the action from completing
(or make continuing unadvisable), a dialog box reports the problems that must be addressed before
the CRU replacement can be safely completed.

Replacement Guidelines and Precautions

Preparing to Replace the Power Supply

Perform these preparatory steps before you attempt to replace a power supply:

1.

Review these important notes and cautions:

Before handling any CRU, obtain an electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection kit. Follow
the directions on the kit for replacing a CRU to prevent damage to system components.

Power cords might contain faulty connectors that, when touched, vibrated, or flexed, can
cause intermittent power or the loss of a processor.

Before replacing a power supply, visually check the power cord without touching the
power cord. If the power cord molding is elliptical rather than square, or if the power
cord part number is TPN 064583, you must replace the power cord offline with power
cord TPN 421575 before you can replace the power supply. For power cord replacement
instructions, refer to the Support and Service > Service Procedures collection of NTL. If
you are replacing both the power cord and the power supply, install the replacement
power cord before installing the replacement power supply.
