Allocating volumes by using existing volume settings

If you have allocated at least one volume to a host, you can allocate new volumes for the host by
using the attributes of an existing volume as the default for the Allocate Volume dialog box. Your
volume allocation can be exactly like, or similar to, the selected existing volume.

1.

From the Resources tab, in the Resources pane, select Hosts or Logical Groups.

2.

Navigate down the tree structure until you reach the host or logical group of interest, click the
host or logical group link and look at the list of existing volumes.

3.

Select an existing volume that matches or is similar to your requirement, and click Allocate Like
Volumes.

4.

The host or logical group name will be displayed, and you will be prompted for other volume
allocation requirements. You can retain existing settings, or change them.

5.

Click Show Plan to check your volume allocation.

6.

If your plan is correct, submit the task.

7.

Check for a Completed task status.

Allocate Volumes dialog box

The order of the fields in this dialog box is consistent, but some fields might not be displayed because
your volume allocation method makes the fields unnecessary.

For example, if you select a basic volume from a specific storage system, then click Allocate Volumes,
you are not prompted for storage system and volume information as this information is known by your
volume selection.

Host and volume fields are displayed at the top of the dialog box. Drop down links show or hide
additional field groups for advanced volume options, LUN paths, host groups and LUN settings.

Errors, for example a required field that is missing, are indicated by a warning icon and error message
at the top of the dialog box.

When finished with specifications, click Show Plan to check your volume allocation plan.

If the plan is correct, accept the default task name, or enter your own task name. You can enter a
description for the task. Schedule the task for Now, or Later, specifying your date and time. For Now
tasks, select View task status to view the task submission and resulting status. To allocate your volumes,
click Submit. Be sure to check for a completed task status.
