Drive capacity can be minimized using the virtual volume of Thin Provisioning (V-VOL) as the data
volume in the intermediate site. The V-VOL is associated with the pool volume, which has a smaller
capacity and thus lowers drive capacity. For information on V-VOLs, see HP P9000 Provisioning
for Open Systems User Guide
.

Prerequisite information for 2DC configuration

P9500 must be installed at the local, Continuous Access Synchronous intermediate, and
Continuous Access Journal remote sites.

RAID Manager is recommended at all sites. If the intermediate site is not connected to a host,
a remote command device is required. See HP P9000 RAID Manager User Guide for more
information.

Remote Web Console is required at all sites.

The primary site requires the following:

Host application

Continuous Access Synchronous

Continuous Access Synchronous P-VOL, the primary production volume.

The intermediate site requires the following:

Continuous Access Synchronous

Continuous Access Journal

Continuous Access Synchronous S-VOL = Continuous Access Journal P-VOL

Continuous Access Journal master journal volume

Use the journal that was registered when 2DC Cascade was set to Enable in the Edit
Journal Volume dialog box. With it you specify whether to write Continuous Access
Synchronous P-VOL data to a shared Continuous Access Synchronous S-VOL/Continuous
Access Journal P-VOL, or to write only to the Continuous Access Journal master journal.
OFF — Data will be written to the shared Continuous Access Synchronous
S-VOL/Continuous Access Journal P-VOL on the intermediate site. The default is OFF.
ON — Data will be written only to Continuous Access Journal master journal volume on
the intermediate site.

The remote site requires the following:

Continuous Access Journal

Continuous Access Journal S-VOL

Continuous Access Journal remote journal volume

Specifications and restrictions for Continuous Access Journal pair operations

The Continuous Access Journal pair depends on the Continuous Access Synchronous pair for
data. Data copying is not executed when the Continuous Access Journal pair is created, but
when the Continuous Access Synchronous pair is created.

About resynchronizing a Continuous Access Journal pair:

The Continuous Access Synchronous S-VOL must be in PSUS or PSUE status (Error Level
field = Group).

Make sure the Continuous Access Journal S-VOL is not in SSWS status when
resynchronizing with -swaps or -swapp options.

If the Continuous Access Journal pair is suspended and in SSWS status, execute the
Pairsplit RB

command on the Continuous Access Journal S-VOL, confirm that status

becomes PSUS, then resynchronize the pair from the primary site.
