Storage Management Appliance Software V2.0 User Guide

Storage Management Appliance

A rack mounted computer processor running software used to manage a Storage Area Network

(SAN)—an HP product. Users interact with the software using a browser based interface.
supported device

A device that generates an SNMP trap message that the Storage Management Appliance can

decode and then send a detailed notification message to selected users. Supported devices have

event code definitions that allow the Management Appliance to decode trap messages. For each

supported device, a Management Appliance user can specify the event types for which they are

notified. See “

About Events

,” on page 58 for more information.

user (privilege level)

One of three privilege levels, one of which is assigned to each Storage Management Appliance

user. A user assigned the user level can view and modify most parts of their own user properties.

With User privileges, a user can receive notifications but cannot view or change discovered devices

or notification settings. See “

Working with Users

,” on page 23 for more information about

assigning privilege levels.
value-added HP storage management application

One of several optional HP applications that can be installed on the Storage Management

Appliance hardware and accessed through the Storage Management Appliance Software. These

additional management applications include:

HP StorageWorks Enterprise Volume Manager V2.0D

HP SANworks Network View V2.0B

HP StorageWorks Secure Path Manager V4.0

HP SANworks Storage Allocation Reporter 1.0D SP2

HP OpenView Storage Provisioner V1.0

entries on a wizard page and click Next to display the next page in the series or click Finish on the

last page to exit the wizard series. See “
