NOTE:

If all non-expirable virtual copies are in valid retention and have already reached

the maximum count, choosing the Enable expirable virtual copies option with the Phase
out non-expirable virtual copies setting will fail. If this happens, choose the Delete the
oldest when count reaches maximum option instead.

(Optional) Select a period of time to retain virtual copy sets.

A dialog box prompts you for the number of days to retain the virtual copy set.
i.

Select the Retention Period.

ii.

Select Hours, Days, Weeks, Months, or Years.

NOTE:

Setting the retention policy requires the HP 3PAR Virtual Lock license on

the HP 3PAR Storage System.

NOTE:

The virtual copy set can be retained for up to 1,825 days.

NOTE:

When using both the expiry and retention options, the expiry value must

be equal to or greater than the retention value.

d.

(Optional for VM’s) Select whether to ensure application consistency. This option is used
to create snapshots of virtual copy sets that adhere to data format standards used by the
VMware Tools.

NOTE:

When installing or upgrading VMware tools, you must be sure to reboot VMware

on the system where it running otherwise application consistent snapshots may not be
valid even though they are reported as completed successfully. This situation can also
occur when the VMware tools have not been upgraded on the VM system following an
upgrade of the ESX server.

5.

Click Save.

The virtual copy policy modification task is submitted and started. An alert appears indicating
that the new policy has been saved.

6.

Click OK.

Scheduling Virtual Copies

You can automatically create virtual copies according to a specified schedule.

To view or create a scheduled virtual copy task:
1.

Follow the instructions in

“Viewing Virtual Copy Information” (page 60)

.

2.

Click the Virtual Copies tab.
