III. MEASUREMENT PROCEDURES

Plug probe into the PROBE INPUT SOCKET.

Make sure the PROBE LOCK is in the lock position

Turn on the instrument by pressing the POWER button.

Point the probe toward the source to be measured. The distance-to-
spot (D/S) ratio is approximately 7 to 1. Press the °C/°F (A) button to

select Centigrade or Fahrenheit. The temperature is displayed on the
LCD.

Refer to the Environmental Quality Meter 850071 Instruction Manual for
complete instructions about Hold, Max./Min, RS232, Auto Shut Off, and
other functions.

Temperature Adjustment
Environmental conditions such as low temperatures and rapid temperature
changes may cause the reading to drift by 1 to 3 degrees. If a deviation
occurs, slightly turn the temperature adjustment until a correct reading is
obtained.

Field Distance/Spot (D/S)

The distance-to-spot factor is approximately 7-to-1. The object must be
larger than the spot size as calculated by the Distance/Spot ratio. For an
accurate measurement, a 1.5 times distance/spot size is recommended.

Emissivity
The probe has an emissivity value of 0.95, which will cover 90% of the
typical applications. If the emissivity value of the object is not 0.95 or if it's
surface is highly reflective, apply masking tape or a paint with a 0.95 emis-
sivity value. Clean the surface if it is covered with frost or other matter
