1965-1966 Power Steering Control Valve

Removal:

1) Mark the location and remove the four fluid lines from the control valve.

2) Rotate the wheels back and forth several times to evacuate the remaining

fluid from the system.

3) Remove the power steering cylinder stud from the drag link.
4) Remove pitman arm, idler arm and inner tie rod ends from drag link. Then

remove link from car.

Installation:

1) Place drag link in car, and install inner tie rod ends, idler arm and the

pitman arm to the valve ball stud. Make sure to install all new cotter pins.

2) Install and tighten all the fluid lines in to there proper position making

sure not to over tighten the fittings.

3) Fill with the reservoir with new power steering fluid to the proper level.

4) Run vehicle for a few minutes to warm fluid, and then turn the steering

wheel back and forth several times reaching the stops each way. Check
the system for leaks.

5) Recheck fluid and fill if necessary.
6) Run vehicle increasing RPM’s to 1000 turning wheel back and forth several

times reaching the stops each way. Recheck system for leaks.

7) Recheck fluid and fill in necessary.
8) With engine running and wheels straight ahead check the position of the

steering wheels. Note: Front end alignment may be necessary after
installation.
