Installation Instructions for Part Number 2945Y JBA Cat4ward® Y-Pipe

For ‘96-’99 Dodge Dakota with 5.2L and Durango with 5.2/5.9L

NOTE: Installation of this product requires an adequate work space, general mechanic’s tools, general mechanical “know-

how” and a reasonable degree of experience. Most auto enthusiasts with these resources will have little difficulty installing

these Cat-Front™ pipe. However, you should carefully read these instructions before attempting to install it. If in doubt,

consult a professional mechanic. (Better to do it now than to get stuck half-way through the installation.)

1.

Place vehicle in a location where the floor is solid and flat, with adequate lighting. Do not attempt to work on a hot

engine. Heat causes metal to expand and makes removal of fasteners difficult at best. Disconnect the battery cables

from the battery. Raise the front of the vehicle to obtain adequate access to the bottom exhaust manifold flanges.

Use large-base jack stands to support the vehicle. Do not rely on the jack! Block the tires to prevent the vehicle

from rolling off the jack stands.

2.

Spray WD-40 or some type of penetrating oil on all accessible fasteners and fittings before attempting to remove

them.

3.

Remove the clamp from the front of cat-converter.

4.

Using an oxy-acetylene torch, CAREFULLY heat the slip coupler at front of converter, slip converter off of Y-pipe.

(You’ll probably have to disconnect exhaust hangers to allow it to slip back far enough).

5.

Remove the nuts attaching the y-pipe to the manifolds. Then remove it.

Note: On 4 wheel drive vehicles, you’ll have to disconnect the front driveshaft from the front axle. It is not necessary to

completely remove the shaft.

6.

Install Y-pipe using a small amount of hi-temp silicone on exhaust pipe flare.

7.

Install cat converter.(you’ll probably have to heat it to get it on all of the way. Reconnect exhaust hangers.

8.

Install supplied U-bolt clamps on slip joints onY-pipe and cat converter. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND HAVING

THE SLIP JOINT IN THE Y-PIPE FULLY WELDED TO ELIMINATE ANY LEAKS.

9.

Check to insure adequate clearance between y-pipe and vehicle components, (trans. cooler lines, front drive shaft,

etc.)

10.

Test drive vehicle, and check for leaks.
