INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

40-1503

1997-99 Dodge Dakota Ext cab/short bed
L4-2.5L, V6-3.9L, V8-5.2L, V8-5.9L - 2wd

T OOLS RECOMMENDED:

T O ST ART :

ratchet
9/16" deep socket
1/2" socket
1/2" wrench
10mm wrench
15mm deep socket
prybar
rubber mallet
spray lubricant or penetrating oil
anti-seize
reciprocating saw or hack saw
pair of channel lock pliers

2. Disconnect negative battery cable and
allow vehicle exhaust to cool.

3. With vehicle raised and properly supported,
using a reciprocating saw or hack saw, cut tail
pipe off at rear of muffler in front of hanger rod.

4. Spray lubricant on front and rear tail pipe
hanger rubber grommets.

5. Using a pair of channel lock pliers,
remove hanger rods from bottom holes of
front and rear tail pipe rubber grommets.

10. Using some form of heat and force,
disengage and remove muffler assembly
without damaging converter pipe.

1. Remove and inventory new JBA
exhaust.

11. Install the 2-1/2" clamp (E) over
stock pipe.

6. Remove tailpipe assembly from
rear of vehicle.

7. Spray penetrating oil on front head pipe
clamp threads and remove using a 15mm
deep socket.

8. Spray lubricant on front muffler hanger
rod rubber grommets.

9. With muffler properly supported, using
a pair of channel lock pliers, remove front
muffler hanger rods from lower hole in
rubber grommets.

12. Install head pipe assembly (J) making
sure notch bottoms out on locating pin.

**Inst allation recommendation:

JBA recommends in most cases that the vehicle be taken to a reputable exhaust shop.

Part s List

14. After locating hole in frame, install
5/16" bolt from bolt assembly (H) from
outside of frame. With nut on inside of
frame, align hanger (F) and tighten using
a 1/2" socket and wrench.

13. Locate mounting hole in frame rail to
bolt hanger (F) to frame.
