INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

40-3017

1992-93 Chevrolet/GMC
Suburban 2&4 WD, F/S
V8-5.7L

TOOLS RECOMMENDED:

TO START:

9/16 deep socket
3/8" ratchet
3/8" short extension
15mm deep socket
rubber mallet
spray lubricant or penetrating oil
anti-seize
reciprocating saw or hack saw
pair of channel lock pliers, 10"

2. Disconnect negative battery cable and
allow vehicle exhaust to cool.

3. With vehicle raised and properly sup-
ported, using a reciprocating saw or hack-
saw, cut the pipe approximately 3" behind
rear of muffler.

4. Spray lubricant on front and rear
tail pipe hanger rubber grommets.

5. Using a pair of channel lock pliers,
remove hanger rods from bottom hole of
front and rear rubber grommets.

10. Disengage and remove muffler
assembly without damaging head pipe.

17. Install tail pipe (C) into slip joint on
muffler (B) making sure the slip joint is
bottomed out completely.

18. Install the front and then the rear
hanger on tail pipe (C) into the bottom
hole of rubber grommets.

1. Remove and inventory new JBA
exhaust.

11. Install head pipe (A) hanger into
bottom hole of rubber grommet.

6. Remove tailpipe assembly from rear
of vehicle.

7. Using a 15mm deep socket, remove
front head pipe clamp.

13. Install 3î clamp (E) over slip joint
and behind locating notch, tighten
completely using 9/16" socket.
NOTE: use anti-seize on all threads.

19. Install 3" clamp (G) over slip joint and
hand tighten only at this time.

20. Slide the 3" clamp (H) over the
end of tail pipe (C).

21. Install turnout (D) over end of
tailpipe (C) making sure slip joint is
bottomed out completely.

25. Using a soft cloth, remove all prints
from turnout tip (D).

26. Re-attach negative battery cable.

27. After installation, it is reccommended
that all clamps be retightened and joints
be tack welded in three spots.

24. Once tailpipe (C) and turnout (D) are
in desired location, tighten 3" clamps (G)
and (H) using a 9/16" socket.

NOTES:
1) It may be necessary to loosen and
realign the spare tire for proper
clearance.

2) All exhaust systems will expand
about 1" rearward when exhaust
temperature start to rise.

3) Use Anti-seize on threads of
clamps.

14. Install muffler (B) over head pipe (A)
with JBA logo facing rear of vehicle
making sure slip joint is bottomed out
completely. NOTE: you may need to tap
the muffler with a rubber mallet.

15. Install the 3" clamp (F) over slip joint in
front of muffler (B) and tighten completely.

16. Starting from rear of vehicle, install tail
pipe (C) with short hanger towards rear of
vehicle.

8. Spray lubricant on muffler hanger
grommet.

9. Using channel lock pliers, remove
hanger rod from bottom hole of rubber
grommet.

12. Align notch with locating pin and
install head pipe (A).

22. Position 3" clamp (H) over slip joint
and hand tighten.

23. Position turnout (D) to desired position.

We recommend taking the truck to a muffler shop and having all slip connections tack welded.

**Inst allation recommendation:

JBA recommends in most cases that the vehicle be taken to a reputable exhaust shop.
