Installing or replacing a memory module

Attention

This section provides instructions on how to install or replace a memory module.

Your computer has four slots for installing or replacing DDR2 DIMMs (double data
rate 2 dual inline memory modules) that provide up to a maximum of 8 GB of
system memory.

When installing or replacing memory modules, use the following guidelines:

Use 1.8 V, 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM (double data rate 2 synchronous dynamic
random access memory).

v

Use 512 MB, 1 GB, or 2 GB memory modules in any combination up to a
maximum of 8 GB.

Note:

Only DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs can be used.

To install or replace a memory module:
1.

Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the
computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and
disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer.

2.

Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the computer cover” on page 16.

3.

Remove any parts that might prevent access to the memory slots.

4.

Locate the memory slots. See “Locating parts on the system board” on page 12.

5.

Open the retaining clips.
